During a season in Salvador, Bahia, in 2016, the then stylist Julia Gastin had the insight to create her first jewelry collection. After studying Fashion and Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro, Milan and Paris, the designer decided to mix Brazilian symbolisms, handcraftsmanship and old traditions to bring her brand to life.
The cowrie shells popularly used in the communication with Orishas according to African-rooted religious were the starting point. Stones, beads, feathers and wood beams were then added to the composition for exclusive pieces, inspired by vintage accessories and creole jewelry – adornments created by African black women during colonial period.
Her handcrafted and sophisticated work with local materials goes against fast-fashion trends and exhales Brazilian culture.
